Dani tribesmen attack the Damal tribe during intertribal wars in the village of Old Kwaki in Timika, Indonesia's Papua province January 5, 2010. The intertribal war started because the Damal tribe was not willing to pay a fine in compensation for a rape that Dani tribesmen suspected was committed by a Damal tribe member. One person died and 25 were injured in the attack, a Caritas hospital officer said.

Amungme tribesmen run to strike another group of Amungme as a dispute has arisen in Timika. The Amungme tribe is one of about 312 different tribes in Papua who commonly end their disputes in traditional fashion. About 13,000 Amungme live in the highlands of the Papua province of Indonesia where the Grasberg mine owned by Freeport-McMoRan is located.
